Boyfriend is the main protagonist of the viral rhythm game Friday Night Funkin' co-created by Newgrounds users ninjamuffin99, KawaiSprite, PhantomArcade, and evilsk8r. His first and only appearance in official Pico content was in Pico's School: Love Conquers All, the April Fools 2021 update for Pico's School.

Pico's School: Love Conquers All[]

In Pico's School: Love Conquers All, Boyfriend is introduced to Cassandra by Pico, him stating that "everybody at school is totally cool with their relationship." Throughout the scene, Boyfriend has a slight grin, but after Cassandra reveals that she is a furry, his expression changes to a shocked one akin to Pico's.

Physical appearance[]

Boyfriend is a young, light-skinned man with spiky cyan hair. He wears a white t-shirt with a red prohibition sign on it, blue baggy pants, red sneakers and a backwards red cap with a dark blue brim. He holds a microphone in his right hand. In Pico's School: Love Conquers All, he is depicted with a nose.

Personality[]

Boyfriend is overconfident^[2] and highly unintelligent, to the point where he is dangerously reckless and will face anything without a single ounce of fear,^[3] with the only known exception to this being lightning. He is very determined and perseverant, and will do whatever it takes to reach his goals, going as far as to use immoral methods such as tricking children on their iPads for profit^[4] or holding a store hostage to obtain free food.^[5]

Boyfriend is also destructive, as he is willing to vandalize PlayPlaces^[6] and will immediately destroy his phones when they malfunction,^[7][8] the latter additionally suggesting he is prone to acting out of anger. He "communicates" with those he isn't familiar with in beeps and bops, making him somewhat eccentric, although he is capable of ordinary conversation.

It is likely Boyfriend is clingy, since he's never seen without Girlfriend. He is shown to have exceptional singing skills, along with knowing fingerboard tricks^[9] and how to heal others.^[10]

Pico[]

Pico and Boyfriend are ex-boyfriends. There has been very little information revealed about their past relationship, aside from the reason for their breakup being "complicated"^[11] and it being hinted that they used to sing together, as the reason Pico rap battles against him is out of nostalgia and old habits,^[12] implying that Pico misses him in some way.

In the present day, Pico proves himself to be more loyal to Boyfriend than his employer Daddy Dearest, as he goes against his orders twice - first to kill Boyfriend in Pico, and then to check if he's dead in Tankman by instead saving his life. It is unclear what Boyfriend feels towards Pico, but he appears to be completely fine being around him and even singing with him.

Trivia[]

• The theory that Boyfriend is Pico's ex was originally a headcanon within the Friday Night Funkin' community, until Tom Fulp acknowledged it with a tweet, claiming it was canon.
  • ninjamuffin99 initially clarified that this was a joke,^[13] but changed his mind afterward and made it official canon.^{[14][15][16][17]}
