A 58-year-old Oak Park woman suffered a cut to her forehead and pain in her shoulder after she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle Monday morning. The woman was traveling southbound through the intersection of Home Avenue and Jackson Boulevard at about 7:45 a.m., when she was hit by the front bumper of a vehicle that was traveling east on Jackson, according to police. The woman was transported by paramedics for treatment.
The driver, a 21-year-old woman from Chicago, fled the scene with the bicycle still lodged under the vehicle. She was later seen removing the bicycle. The Chicago Police Department later located the driver, who was then identified by a witness. She is currently awaiting charges in the custody of the Oak Park Police Department, which is investigating the incident.
Aggravated assault arrests
- A Chicago man with an Austin address was arrested for striking an Oak Park police officer while he was being detained for threatening bodily harm to a 16-year-old female at 5:32 p.m., May 11 at the CTA train station at 720 S. Austin Blvd. The suspect was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery to a police officer.
- A male juvenile from Chicago was arrested after being identified as the offender who threatened two people sitting in their vehicle by pulling up his shirt and exposing a black handgun at 9:53 p.m., May 14 in the 600 block of South Harvey Avenue. The juvenile gave conflicting information upon his arrest and was found to have an active warrant for a parole violation. The juvenile also damaged the wall of the processing area in the Oak Park Police Department. Police recovered the handgun and the juvenile received two charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and one charge each of criminal damage to government property and aggravated assault and obstruction of justice.
Burglary
- Someone broke into a black 2015 Nissan Rogue, ransacked its interior then removed two pairs of sunglasses from the vehicle between 7 p.m., May 9 and 8 a.m., May 10 in the 200 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. The estimated loss is $400.
- Someone broke the front passenger’s side window of a gray 2017 Dodge Journey then removed cash and a blue jacket from the vehicle between 6:30 p.m., May 9 and 8:36 a.m., May 10 in the 100 block of South Oak Park Avenue. The estimated loss is unknown.
- Two pairs of sunglasses, a phone charger and cash were taken from a green 2018 Subaru with an unlocked door that was parked in the 800 block of Erie Street between 4 p.m., May 9 and 12:30 p.m., May 10. The estimated loss is $410.
- Someone shattered the driver’s side window of a Toyota Sienna to grab a garage opener, then opened the garage and took a black and white Schwinn bicycle between 6 p.m., May 11 and 7:30 a.m., May 12 in the 600 block of South Euclid Avenue. The estimated loss, including the cost of the damage, is $580.
- Someone broke into a green Subaru Forester, ransacked the center console and broke the fuse box, while the vehicle was parked in the 600 block of North Taylor Avenue between 5 p.m., May 13 and 11:30 a.m., May 14.
- Someone ransacked the interior of a gray 2014 Chevy with an unlocked door and took about $1 in change from the vehicle between 10 p.m., May 13 and 10:50 a.m., May 14 in the 400 block of North Lombard Avenue.
Recovered stolen vehicle
- The black 2014 Toyota RAV4 reported stolen out of Oak Park April 30 was recovered by the Cape Girardeau Police Department May 10 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Theft
- An Uber driver’s Apple iPad was stolen from under his seat while driving a male passenger, who reportedly wrapped the tablet in his jacket while sitting in the backseat at 3:43 p.m., May 12 in the 600 block of Clarence Avenue. The estimated loss is $575.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park Police Department, came from reports through May 10 to May 16 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
