Skills for Secondary School Success (4S) is a new research-based curriculum designed to prepare students for high school by boosting their competence, self-management, growth mindset, self-efficacy, sense of school belonging, and purpose.

It takes practice and dedication to learn strategies to help you become academically successful. Some examples of success skills are time management, organization, critical thinking, communication, reading comprehension, research & writing skills, and digital fluency.

The students are enrolled in a program called Life Skills, where they learn functional communication skills as well as functional academic skills like counting, adding, language structure, word identification, reading, and sharing space with others.

Our framework includes five essential supports: school leadership, parent-com- munity ties, professional capacity, student-centered learning climate, and ambitious instruction. Within each essential support are several important concepts.

There are three types of skills: functional, self-management and special knowledge. Functional skills are abilities or talents that are inherited at birth and developed through experience and learning. Examples are: making decisions, repairing machines or calculating taxes.

Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action.

What is A Student Success Team? The Student Success Team (SST) is a positive team oriented approach to assisting students that may need support related to academic, behavioral, and/or social emotional health. Who can make a referral? Either a staff member or parent can make a referral for an SST.
